Procedure Overview:
– The stomach is divided into a small egg-sized pouch
– The larger portion of the stomach is bypassed and no longer digests food
– The small intestine is rerouted to connect with the new pouch, forming a Y-
shaped configuration
– Digestive enzymes from the bypassed stomach eventually mix with food
further down the intestine
